NNI Nutrition During Infancy
Nutrients contribute to brain development not only during the antenatal period but also during early postnatal life.
Nutrients contribute to brain development not only during the antenatal period but also during early postnatal life. Growth during neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay and early infancy are critical, particularly in very-low-birthweight (VLBW) infants. Growth during early infancy impacts growth in later stages in life, neurodevelopment, and adulthood disorders. Early nutritional insults result in brain dysfunction, not only when nutrients are deficient but also following repletion. It is thus important to optimise growth in early infancy and ensure an optimal intake of calories, proteins, and other nutrients.
